{"id":64,"date":"2018-09-13T14:26:19","date_gmt":"2018-09-13T13:26:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/web.kba.uk\/techblog\/?p=64"},"modified":"2018-09-13T16:08:14","modified_gmt":"2018-09-13T15:08:14","slug":"getting-the-best-out-of-your-battery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/web.kba.uk\/techblog\/index.php\/2018\/09\/13\/getting-the-best-out-of-your-battery\/","title":{"rendered":"Getting the best out of your battery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By default, mobile devices are set to high performance mode.\u00a0 This is good in that your device will always be available quite quickly for example for when your lid is closed.\u00a0 The bad news is that your battery will drain quite quickly when not plugged in.\u00a0 There are a few things you can change to make your battery last further.<\/p>\n<h2>Battery saver<\/h2>\n<p>The first one being to turn on &#8220;Battery saver&#8221;.\u00a0 To do this. select the\u00a0<strong class=\"\">Start\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u229e<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">button, and then select\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Settings\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: segoe-mdl2-assets; font-size: 1rem;\">\ue115<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">System\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-family: segoe-mdl2-assets; font-size: 1rem;\">\ue770\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">&gt;\u00a0<\/span><strong class=\"x-hidden-focus\" style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Battery\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-family: segoe-mdl2-assets; font-size: 1rem;\">\ue850.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0 Under the &#8220;Battery saver&#8221; heading, check the box next to &#8220;Turn battery saver on automatically if my battery falls below:&#8221;, then drag the slider along to the desired percentage.\u00a0 I would recommend keeping it quite high (80%) and see how the performance is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"625\" height=\"469\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/L1Pm8orYfFg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Change what happens when you close the lid<\/h2>\n<p>Another good option would be to change what happens when you close the lid\/fold the keyboard over.\u00a0 By default this puts your device to sleep, which still uses battery.\u00a0 Another option would be to hibernate the computer when you close the lid.\u00a0 This saves the state your machine is, then turns it off so it&#8217;s not using the battery.\u00a0 When you turn it back on, it will restore the state you left it in.\u00a0 To do this,\u00a0select the\u00a0<strong>Start<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u229e<\/span>\u00a0button, and then select\u00a0<strong>Settings<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: segoe-mdl2-assets; font-size: 1rem;\">\ue115<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0&gt;\u00a0<strong>System\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"font-family: segoe-mdl2-assets; font-size: 1rem;\">\ue770\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>&gt;\u00a0<strong>Power &amp;
